The Challenge
To link the new West Costessey Hall with the existing Costessey Parish HQ building. Provide a telephone at the West Hall that is part of the existing IP Cortex VoIP PBX system and a PC that is linked to the main HQ AD network for file sharing and remote access.
Provide internet, remote PC workstation, Guest WiFi and a telephone extension to a new build site.
The Solution
Telephone line and xDSL service provision to new site.
FortiNet firewall at existing site had been previously updated to a new series model, the size of the requirement meant that the remote site could be a small cheaper version of the same series. FortiNet firewall to build VPN tunnel to main headquarters, provide WiFi for private LAN and separate Guest WiFi access to site.
Program QoS priorities for VoIP traffic across the VPN tunnel and provision a SIP handset with the remote IP PBX (IP Cortex). DHCP scope adjustments for VoIP rules and static DNS entries for PBX and Server resolution.
All PC’s at all sites have FreeClix Autotask AEM installed for remote management and patch control.
Technical Implementation
Liaised with BT Openreach engineers for installation of the phone line and our carrier for the xDSL provision. Onsite installation and programming of FortiNet firewall. Onsite programming of PC and Telephone handset to ensure registration to active directory and PBX respectively. Configure guest WiFi network and separate traffic from private network.
Update all firewalls firmware to latest releases to ensure compatibility.
Ensure remote access is working and handover to West Costessey Hall staff.
The Result
A seamless extension from Costessey Parish Council’s HQ to their remote site, all workers can login to the PC and make telephone calls as if they were in the main office reliably, whilst providing a WiFi network for guest access for visitors that doesn’t compromise their security.
